Over the course of my next several posts, I am going to discuss the importance of teamwork as it relates to you as a father, working together with the mother of your children. It can be easy to sit back and let the mom handle the tough tasks, while you get to enjoy the fun “dad tasks” and throw a football or enjoy a water gun fight.
However, let’s vow to work together as a team and make sure we are there for our children and our significant other
Teamwork with Nightly Breast and Bottle Feedings
Let’s face it. I love my sleep. We all do. But when you have a newborn, or twins in my case, you’re going to have nights with little sleep. But it can be easy to let the mom do the feedings and doze back off to sleep. I’m going to tell you right now – do not do that! There are so many things you can do to help her in that moment and focus on teamwork.
- Keep her company – Instead of sleeping, catch up on life, make her laugh, help keep her awake!
- Read a story to her and the baby – Don’t forget to use your inside voice.
- Help with any diaper changes during the feeding process
- If your baby is being bottle fed, you can certainly take over and hold your baby while they bottle feed – This will allow the mom to rest if she is able. TEAMWORK!
If you’re looking for bottles to help with those feedings, check these out. They are a great size, have an easy to latch nipple and it is a comfortable transition for the baby.
These are little things that will go a long way in showing her that you recognize that she is tired too. You have a big role to play as a partner and a father. Working together as a team will make your parenting experience so much smoother. You will get your sleep back…someday!
If you have tried any of these ideas and they work for you, let me know in the comments. I would love to hear from you!
