5 Fun Ways to Celebrate the First Day of Fall

first day of fall

Family is the most important thing to me. So, what better way than to celebrate the first day of fall with family?

These are five fun ways that you can celebrate the first day of fall with your family this season!

1. Celebrate the first day of fall with a family hike

A family hike is one of our favorite family activities to do year round. The fall is a great time to go on a hike because it can quickly turn into a scavenger hunt.

During a fall hike, we hunt for bugs, butterflies, various shapes and colors of leaves and worms.

Hiking during the fall season is an awesome way to explore, check out the tree foliage and just be thankful for all God blesses us with on a daily basis.

2. Visit a pumpkin patch

I truly don’t know if it’s possible to go through the fall season without visiting a pumpkin patch.

Celebrate the first day of fall by going to a pumpkin patch. You will have access to a variety of pumpkins as most people won’t think about doing this until October arrives and Halloween is on everyone’s minds.

Carve those pumpkins now. Paint a pumpkin or two. Decorate your porch with your pumpkin creations. Cook those pumpkin seeds. Get creative.

Maybe you will have so much fun that you want to do this again a few weeks later.

I say, go for it!

3. Invite your neighbors over for some s’mores

If you live close to your neighbors, take that opportunity to build relationships.

A cool September evening. The sun sets earlier. The kids are celebrating making it through another week of school. It’s Friday night. Invite your neighbors over for a few s’mores and conversation!

Take advantage of those opportunities to serve one another and build fruitful conversation. It may require prepping and planning on your end, but you won’t regret the final outcome – smiles.

4. Watch football together as a family

If you love football as much as I do, then this one is a no brainer. One of my favorite things about the fall season is that football is back. I mentioned earlier this month that I have an obsession with fantasy football. I am starting to bring find ways to bring my kids into that obsession, and watching a football game together ties in those interests even more.

Make some snacks together as a family and enjoy an afternoon cheering on your hometown football team!

5. Bake a yummy treat together

You’re just lucky all five of my ideas on this list weren’t food related! There are so many great treats you can bake together as a family to celebrate the first day of fall.

  • Apple pie
  • Pumpkin pie
  • Rice krispy treats
  • Apple cider
  • Cinnamon rolls

I like the idea for a hike, and the cooking one, as well. Fall and spring are the best seasons for hiking in my country because the weather is great (not too cold, not too hot). I’m planning to do some cooking with my daughter this fall. Thanks for sharing these great ideas!

  7. Football party and s’mores. YES please! I love a good neighborhood football watch party!
